The Council of Fashion Designers of America hosts the annual CFDA awards in New York City as a celebration of designers and those who wear and follow fashion religiously. Various branches of the industry are represented and various people are recognized. At this year’s awards, David Bowie was memorialized for being such an inspiration to the creative process behind the fashion, along with Prince for his fashionable contributions. The fashion was of course, quite the spectacle of last night’s event and primarily consisted of the coinciding colors of the event which was black, white and red, which my favorite looks of the evening consisted of. I may be impartial, being that I am currently listening to Beyoncé’s Lemonade album (if you haven’t listened/bought/obsessed yet you really should) but she was by far my best dressed. Her striped Givenchy suit paired with her “large” brimmed hat entirely made me fan girl. It showed how worthy she was of receiving the Fashion Icon Award because let’s face it, not too many people can rock that without looking like an imprisoned farmer. Check out my favorite looks below and let me know who your favorite was!
If you do not know who Taylor Hill is, you really should. She is one of the biggest models of the moment and let me start by saying that her eyebrows are indeed everything. I’ve been following Taylor for quite some time now and she has tripled in followers and is finally getting the attention that she rightfully deserves. She has also earned her wings by becoming a Victoria’s Secret Angel and has walked in several designer fashion shows season after season. Needless to say, I was ecstatic when I saw that she was featured on the first of British Vogue’s series of “In The Bag”. British Vogue showcases various celebrities and explores their bags to get an inside look into their lives. I’m enjoying their new YouTube series and wanted to share with you not only the first, but my favorite (duh, because it is Taylor)! Enjoy the “episode” and do not hate the contents of your bag too much for not being as fabulous as hers.
P.S. British Vogue if you’d like to look through my bag you will more than likely find chap stick (if I remember to grab it), an expired coupon and may have the occasional granola bar. I believe that I have enticed you thoroughly, and I will be awaiting an email.
We live in the age of social media along with our ever so fashionable celebrity counterparts. While they do make our amount of likes and followers seem minuscule, their accounts have such a large following for a reason. My favorite ones in particular, are the celebrities that showcase their luxurious fashion taste (or their stylists, which ever way you choose to look at it). It not only makes our own closets look like the clearance rack at Kohls, but it gives us some serious inspiration or shall I say depressing dreams. Therefore I have rounded up my top five favorite fashionistas on Instagram (bloggers excluded) so that you can make your feed a little more fash-tastic (more than likely the most cliché/ignorant word I have written on my blog). So check out some of my favorite posts from these “fashstagrams” (I’m doing it again, aren’t I?!?) and check out the rest of their feeds!
Let me begin with my personal favorite, Blake Lively! Her Instagram is filled with highlights from her incredible life and showcases her ever-so-perfect self. Her captions are equal parts genius and “on point” and she is an underrated Queen of Instagram. She always fills her posts with her exquisite couture style and often includes hilarious photos of herself. She is by far my favorite fashionista to follow and one of my ultimate celebrities to fan girl over.

Over the past weekend both my friends and I had quite the glamorous evening. While it wasn’t the Met Gala (give me a few years) it was prom! This year’s prom was not as important for me because I am only a Junior, but you know me, I still brought my A-game. I have never been overly enthused by the sparkly, typical, prom dresses so I spiced it up a little bit. I wanted to create a look that was modern and fairly simplistic. The process all started when I did some online shopping (typical) and found a life-changing gold choker! I then scoured the lovely world wide web in the hopes of finding “the dress”. I ending up finding one that wouldn’t break the bank and one that I knew would fit me because I only went through ordering about 6 dresses online, all in which did not fit. So I found this tight little saucy gathered number and knew that we would get along well. With that the look was finally complete, so I then grabbed my gals and we headed out for an evening filled with high school glamour, food and good music. Side note: I felt like the red dancing emoji ALL night and I loved it. Anyways enjoy these pics of me and my squad at prom and let me know your thoughts about my look in the comments below! Beware photo quality varies depending on which of my somewhat technologically challenged parents were taking the pictures (in their defense it was a new camera and I still love them).
I have been tagged by the ever-so-lovely Ashlee of Ashlee Liz for the beauty tag! The beauty tag is simply one that a blogger starts and then selects other bloggers to answer the eight questions about beauty products. It is a fun little way to get both bloggers active and their audience! So let’s get right down to it and answer some hard-hitting beauty questions. Caution: I am in no way a beauty connoisseur, however, I do have some favorite products and overall opinions (per usual).
Ashlee’s beauty questions:
Would you rather play up your brows or your lips?
This is a tricky one! As you more than likely already know, I LOVE eyebrows and especially thick and full in appearance (hence my nice thick Italian ones). So I do love a strong brow! However lips are such a fun way to spice up any look. I’ll stop being all indecisive and conclude that I would rather…….play up my brows. Didn’t see that one coming did ya?!?
What is your favorite high-end brand?
Let us not forget that I am a seventeen year old girl with a part time job. This being said, I have bought some high end brands, but not too many because my funds are usually low and I am also more of an I’ll take this top over this eye shadow type of gal. However I do love BareMinerals and Benefit. Side note: I use Anastasia Beverley Hills eyebrow gel everyday for my eyebrows. They help keep them tame and fill in the sparse areas, definitely a brand I love.
What is your favorite drugstore brand?
My favorite drugstore brand is Maybelline. Because I’m not born with it, and their products are affordable and look nice on. I especially like their mascara, which in my opinion is the best out of the other drug store brands.
Believe it or not, the warm weather and sunshine is coming! If you live in Michigan like yours truly, then perhaps you are in denial. It is most definitely coming, and it is important to have some killer essentials to get you through the warm months. This time you will also not just be receiving my biased input, you will be receiving my entire blogging squad’s input! We have banded together in collaboration in an effort to put together some fun looks and also to support one another and broaden our audience across all of our blogs. Before I start with my individual look, I’d like to introduce you to the incredibly fabulous and successful women who are members of the squad!
The main event of fashion has finally arrived! The Met Gala is the most important event of the fashion calendar and always has an impeccable theme. The theme of the ball this year was Manus x Machina, so in a nutshell, the blending of fashion with technology. While many celebs did not embrace the theme, there was a solid handful that really brought their A-game. Don’t get me wrong, there were plenty of misses, and overall I thought that this year was not overly memorable. I could only watch so many silver dresses with embellishments stroll down the red carpet before I lost my sanity. While I did like many of them, they did not have that “Met” factor, and will easily be forgotten. Especially due to the abundance of silver on the carpet, I was honestly just waiting for the Tin Man to show up and school all of these “fashionistas”. Although much to my disappointment the Tin Man did not show, some of the male attendees really branched out and actually had some of my favorite looks. They pushed the envelope at the gala and it really paid off! Let’s hope that some other men grabbed some scrap pieces of paper and took some serious notes. I’ll start off my review with the dashing gentlemen who showed up to the met in style. One of my favorites was Lucky Blue Smith, who is the famous platinum blonde teen model who has been making waves in fashion (also my future husband). He looked dapper while still adding some spice with metallic leather pants and a pop of red with a flower pinned to his lapel. Orlando Bloom was stylish in a maroon suit jacket with contrasting white and black and even wore a Tamagotchi (90’s kids you know what I’m talking about) on his jacket to incorporate the theme. Zayn Malik was my favorite man who walked the carpet, not just because he was with Gigi, but because he embraced the theme in an entirely tasteful way and in fact made me want bionic arms. He did not appear as if he tried too hard to match the theme and he simply just strolled in as cool as ever with some futuristic adaptations to his suit.
The fabulous evening is almost upon us, yes my friends I am referring to the Met Gala! It is the highlight of the fashion calendar and it is oh-so-exclusive. The Met Gala has been an annual event at The Metropolitan Art Museum for seventy years, and has remained invite only. Anyone who is anyone is there and all guests arrive wearing their best costumes in celebration of fashion. Some play it safe and others embrace the theme and bring out memorable couture. Personally, I appreciate those who entirely commit to both their look and the theme. I have rounded up some of my all time favorite Met Gala looks from celebrities that entirely BROUGHT it. Enjoy these pictures and keep checking your phones tomorrow to see all of the fabulous looks! Side note: Rihanna’s look last year is one of my all time favorites to ever have walked the Met Gala. Does she look like a cracked egg? Yes. Do I love it? Yes.
P.S. I’m sure you’ll see me on the infamous steps one day! Until then, squint really hard at your screen of anyone who has dark hair and there is a possibility that they may look like me. However, make sure to pick someone that is well dressed.
You guessed it, I am referring to the Olsen Twins. Not only have I cherished them from the beginning of their Full House days, but I may even be a bigger fan of them now due to their emergence in the fashion industry. Don’t get me wrong I loved their outfits in everything from Billboard Dad to my all time favorite, (don’t fight me on this) New York Minute, which c’mon now, even made it to the big screen and was not available on VCR first! Since leaving acting to pursue fashion (much to my own personal sadness) they have been making some serious waves. They have multiple brands that range from their couture brand, The Row, to more affordable in store lines. All of their brands have collectively showcased that the Olsen’s have truly found their niche. Through designing, their overall styles have evolved tremendously, so much, that they have broken “cardinal” rules of fashion and do so graciously. Their often shapeless, casual, everyday style somehow manages to looks as flattering as if the clothes were form fitting. I really don’t know how they do it folks, but there may be some serious magic involved (“how rude” of them, I know). Quite frankly I would look like a potato sack (more accurately like Dobby because I’m so boney) in over half of the clothes they wear. But they clearly pull it off, because you simply do not just get dubbed the most fashionable twins by me (as if there are even any other twins for comparison) by chance. On a serious note, my favorite thing about both Mary Kate and Ashley’s style is how they incorporate a large variety of items into their wardrobe. One day they are polished, in all black and another they are sporting bright colors in a bohemian inspired look. I try to do something similar within my own closet, where I try to maintain a solid variety that consists of items that are all of my taste and derive from “different” styles that I then make blend together to make my own personal style. The Olsens do that effortlessly, and it most definitely pays off. I also appreciate the risks that the girls take. They are always pushing through barriers and breaking those “cardinal” fashion rules. Their overall brand reflects their fashion philosophies, which is entirely refreshing. These fabulous twins appear to be quite unstoppable in all of their business ventures and they have totally “got it dude” (referencing Full House is a must). So appreciate some of my all-time favorite photos/looks of MK & A handpicked by yours truly that showcase how the duo is truly a force to be reckon with. Side note: I’m entirely jealous at how well they compliment each other in every single photo.
P.S. Full disclosure, Ashley is my favorite of the two. Don’t tell Mary Kate though because I pretty much obsess over them equally.
I have officially been blogging for over three months now! Although that is a very short amount of time, I feel like it has flown by, but nonetheless I have learned a lot along the way. I have experienced a lot of confusion and frustration throughout the process, such as, “What in god’s name are plugins?”, “Hello Bar, what the heck is it, and do I need that?!?”. These instances happen to me all of the time, but hey there is always Google. The blogging world can be intimidating and scary, but since there are millions of blogs, and individuals who actually know what something like Hello Bar is, it ends up not being oh so scary. When I first created my blog I was terrified by the fact that anyone could type in my URL and see actual pictures of me, my face and the whole nine yards, along with another side of me. Sharing a more personal side of myself was entirely terrifying, but I am currently still kicking, sans aneurysms or any other medical consequences. When someone I know tells me that they have read my blog I still feel uncomfortable, because I still may be self conscious about that one picture 15 posts ago where my hand was at a slightly strange angle and my eyes appeared a little disengaged. That is simply me just being a total control-freak-perfectionist and that is where my first tip comes from. If you are currently running your own blog, thinking about it, or simply just want to hear the words that spew from my keyboard, check out my tips below and hopefully they can shine some light on the blogging process!
